Merged with SEDCO FOREX, a Spin-off of SCHLUMBERGER (SLB), and issued 109 million shares to SLB holders. Acquired R&B FALCON CORP (FLC) Jan 2001 for 97.8 million shares, 0.5 RIG per FLC. Spun-off shallow water rig operator TODCO (THE) via IPO Feb 2004. Acquired GLOBALSANTAFE (GSF) Nov 2007 for 111.6 million shares, 0.4757 RIG and $22.46 cash per GSF, and reclassifying ordinary shares into 0.6996 RIG shares and $33.03 cash. Removed from S&P 500 December 2008 with Swiss reincorporation. Offers contract drilling of oil and gas wells in offshore areas with a fleet of 46 Ultra-Deepwater, Deepwater and Harsh-Environment semisubmersibles and drillships, 26 Midwater Floaters, 10 High-Specification Jackups, and 55 Standard Jackups. Acquisition offer of $1.43 billion for AKER August 15, 2011.
