This domestic production of synthetic natural gas (produced through a coal-to-gas conversion process utilizing low-quality coal) is intended to substantially reduce Korea's dependence on imported liquefied natural gas. Oct. 19, 2009 equity swap with Kookmin Bank to fund the project, with POSCO to purchase 4,084,967 shares of KB Financial Group's stock (1.15 %) worth KRW 250 billion from Kookmin Bank. POSCO would hold 3.68% of KB Financial Group's shares, vs. 2.53% prior to the swap.
