Question: How do I set up a Portfolio?

Answer: To set up a new Portfolio click the Portfolio option on the navigation bar just below the Stock Smart logo. Click the New button and follow the step-by-step directions to enter your Portfolio characteristics. The only required field is Portfolio name; however, you may want to complete other characteristics to optimize the Portfolio feature. Other items to complete include:
  • Email address - you can receive Portfolio statements by email daily, weekly or monthly. Click HTML if you would like HTML format. Select the combine option to get a single report on several portfolios.
  • The Combine Portfolios option allows you to see combined Portfolio statements on line.
  • Choose to include issues that you are monitoring but are not included in your profit/loss calculation.
  • Choose to value the securities in your Portfolio using the bid/ask spread or using the last sale price for the security.
  • Enter an email address for alerts associated with this Portfolio. This will only be effective if your subscription includes the alert feature.
  • Select a method to calculate profit and loss in the portfolio. You can select a First In First Out (FIFO) calculation or you can manually pair buy and sell trades on securities. Note: Once there is a closed position in your portfolio you will not be able to change the P&L method.
